Seventeen years ago, we received a gift – a little boy so beautiful and wrinkled, he singularly threatened the anti-ageing industry. Coffee coloured, he came with a cough and so he was named – Coughee.
A mix between a mini-pinscher and a pug, he was both ferocious and loving. Much as he loved us to bits, he also loved chewing bits …. of his foes. An equal opportunity terror, was often seen chasing dogs, usually those thrice his size. Mercifully, dogs don’t understand size, just attitude, and the latter he had aplenty.
At home, his life revolved around Rayaan. He did everything with him, including attending home study lessons. Obviously, he paid attention! He knew how to count (I kid you not!) – turning into a little “hafta collector”, extracting biscuits from all and sundry to mathematical precision.
Coughee, saying goodbye to you broke our hearts. As you transition to the other side, our favourite little outlaw, we say thanks for the unadulterated love, joy and laughter you filled our lives with and take comfort in the way you loved us.
With your memories we live, until we meet again…. .
